- For Class I water heaters, the sheath of the heating element and accessible metal parts must be reliably connected to the earthing terminal, irrespective of whether accessible metal parts are in contact with water or whether other parts have been reliably connected to the earthing terminal (Cl. 27.1).

New Zealand: Electricity (Safety) Amendment Regulations 2025
Long-awaited update to the New Zealand Electricity (Safety) Regulations 2010
These regulations form part of the legislation starting Nov. 13, 2025, with a 12-month transition period (ending on the close of Nov. 12, 2026).
Schedule 2 of “Official standards referred to in regulations” standards is updated and includes the following important changes:
- AS/NZS 3000:2007+A1+A2, Electrical Installations (Known as the Australian/New Zealand Wiring Rules) (with modifications to Cl. 4.5.2.3.2 and 4.18), is replaced by AS/NZS 3000:2018+A1+A2+A3 (with modifications and deletions to multiple clauses); refer to the amendment regulation for full details.
- AS/NZS 3001:2008, Electrical Installations – Transportable Structures and Vehicles Including Their Site Supplies, is replaced by AS/NZS 3001.1:2022 and AS/NZS 3001.2:2022 (with modifications and deletions to multiple clauses); refer to the amendment regulation for full details.
- AS/NZS 3012:2010, Electrical Installations – Construction and Demolition Sites, is replaced by AS/NZS 3012:2019+A1 (with modifications and deletions to multiple clauses); refer to the amendment regulation for full details.
- AS/NZS 3112:2011+A1 is replaced by AS/NZS 3112:2017+A1, with Cl. 3.12 modified to include the additional text, “Conductive material shall not be used in the construction of shutters and associated components.”
- AS/NZS 3190:2011 is replaced by AS/NZS 3190:2016+A1, with Cl. 3.2.2.3 deleted and Cl. 7.1.1(b) modified to include the additional text, “which for New Zealand must include 230 V or 400 V” after the text “Rated Voltage.”
Schedule 4 of “Standards applicable to fittings and appliances” is updated to list more recent versions of standards.
