AU Mark – Data Acceptance Pathways

The UL-AU Mark Scheme incorporates a number of data acceptance pathways that allow for the acceptance of new test data.

UL Solutions recognizes that product manufacturers in the ANZ region can have an extensive catalog of existing test data for their products that may support a transition to third-party product certification.

To facilitate this, the UL-AU Mark Scheme incorporates a number of data acceptance pathways.  These pathways allow for the acceptance of new test data generated by UL Solutions, or alternatively consideration of existing test data from UL Solutions, or other independently recognized bodies that meet UL Solutions’ requirements.

  • Test data is a key input to achieving UL-AU certification
  • The UL-AU Mark scheme incorporates multiple data acceptance pathways
  • Testing can be completed at UL Solutions’ global accredited laboratories or nominated UL Solutions Partner laboratories with consideration given to existing data

Testing with UL Solutions and UL Solutions Partner laboratories

Testing with UL Solutions or a UL Solutions Partner laboratory is the most efficient path to support a UL-AU Mark certification decision. UL Solutions and UL Solution Partner laboratories hold internationally recognized accreditation to independently demonstrate competence to undertake testing to prescribed Standards and requirements.

UL Solutions Labs supporting the UL-AU Mark Scheme include:

UL Solutions Northbrook – Chicago, Illinois, USA

  • Smoke alarm and detection products
  • Firestopping, fire containment and resistance products

UL Solutions Rosenheim – Rosenheim, Germany

  • Firestopping, fire containment and resistance products

These UL Solutions laboratories are also capable of testing to Standards adopted in other regions allowing UL Solutions to offer efficient testing programs to support global market access.

UL Solutions partner laboratories located in-region

Complementing UL Solutions’ comprehensive capabilities are UL Solutions partner laboratories located in-region.  UL Solutions has established data acceptance agreements with the following laboratories to support access to the UL-AU Mark Scheme:

CSIRO – Clayton, Victoria, Australia - Smoke alarm and detection products

FireTSLab – Auckland, New Zealand - Firestopping, fire containment and resistance

Data generated by a UL Solutions Partner laboratory is automatically accepted by UL Solutions to support a UL-AU Mark certification decision in accordance with the associated data acceptance agreement between UL Solutions and the relevant UL Solutions Partner laboratory.

Use of existing data

Where product manufacturers have existing test data this may be reviewed to support a UL-AU Mark certification decision.  UL Solutions will consider:

  • What Standard was the data generated against
  • How the existing data validates current production of the product
  • The accreditation status and competency of any non-UL Solutions laboratory that generated the data

This review process will determine the extent of existing data that can be accepted by UL Solutions for the purpose of UL-AU Mark certification and the scope of any supplementary testing required.

  • All UL-AU Mark certified products must be supported by test data
  • Existing test data must validate current production
  • Supplementary testing to address data gaps is often more cost effective than full re-testing
